You either get bitter or you get better.
We’ve heard that one before, nothing new here. But still, simple statements can make a big difference in our lives; and this is one.
But behind this idea, is a monster. Stop getting bitter when things turn sour, or during a hit and miss. Instead, focus on how you can get better at what you’re trying to achieve. Results take effort and time. There’s no magical wand that will help you here, it’s all about brute force and yes sometimes natural talent and I'll admit, a bit of luck doesn't hurt.
I’ve yet to find something a human can’t learn; I'm not saying being great at it, but at least understanding the fundamentals. But at the same time, you shouldn't learn everything.
Most of the times It’s about just putting in the effort and having a great teacher or knowing when to get help. And because our days are limited on time, this is where you need to make hard choices. To go forward, sometimes we need to drop things, and that’s the truth about our life’s.
So here are a few tricks for you.
1 – Not everything has the same importance. Similar to saying that you can’t put everything on one shelf. Really, think about it for a sec and understand that our efforts should be put on added value, whatever the subject or situation. Hate talking on the phone, talk less. Hate answering emails? Only take care of the ones that really need your attention.
2 – Some things we’re just not good at. Yep, there’s a kicker for you. If you’ve found you have key challenges in a subject or activity and it’s not that fundamental for you, drop it. Tried the guitar for months and it still doesn’t work? Change instrument or just drop it. Been cooking for years and you can still find a way to burn your eggs? Accept it and move on.
3 – Don’t be afraid to get some help. Stop trying to do everything by yourself and get some help from someone who actually knows what they’re doing. It’s so simple that many forget to do it. Been trying to fix that computer of yours and it still hangs? Get help. Your house is dirty and you feel you don’t have the time to do it correctly? Get help.
Nothing complex here, but I just thought it was important to talk about this. We tend to forget about the simplest things in life: we run like chickens during our days. And hear this...
So stop getting bitter and get better. It's not always about winning or loosing, sometimes it's more about winning and learning.
