Hi.

Welcome to boomseb. From advice to actionable items I'm convinced that how we live our life is far more important than how we say we live our life.

Are Apple products really that expensive or low cost in the end?

Are Apple products really that expensive or low cost in the end?

Great question and most would think the answer is yes or maybe based on your salary or need, but is it?

I think all these answers couldn’t be further from the truth. Let me explain and get ready for bold statements.

It’s time to stop thinking Apple products and services are expensive and start focusing on why so many others are way less expensive and just plain free. My contention is simple: Apple is usually more expensive because this company is one of the only ones out there that truly values your privacy. Boom.

Have you ever heard about differential privacy? If not, you should really take a moment and read the following link. This is a monster, no better, it’s the Godzilla of tech things to come.

Differential privacy is rooted in the idea that calibrated data noise can mask a user’s data. So when hundreds of millions of people submit data, the noise that has been added averages out and meaningful information emerges.

From Apple’s website and the Machine Learning team...

“Understanding how people use their devices often helps in improving the user experience. However, accessing the data that provides such insights — for example, what users type on their keyboards and the websites they visit — can compromise user privacy. We develop a system architecture that enables learning at scale by leveraging local differential privacy, combined with existing privacy best practices.”

Apple didn’t invent this, such as they didn’t invent the mobile phone. But if you think they made a difference with the iPhone, wait till you see where they’re going with differential privacy solutions, architectures and products using these.

If you think Apple made a difference with the iPhone, wait till you see with privacy.

For many other players out there, they don’t primarily care about your privacy; they care about selling you ads and services based on where you were, what you’ve seen, whom you’ve been around and so on. This in turn enables them to more easily predict what you’ll want as they have access to all your date and know exactly who, when and where it comes from!

Apple is one of the only companies that actively spend billions of dollars and put great effort to design products in a way that deliberately protects your privacy. From A to Z. Nothing’s perfect, but the core intent is genuinely there and enforced.

Apple doesn’t design simple options such as controlling whom you share with, or how long that share or post will be available.

Apple puts together solutions that police, governments and military can’t even break; or have a darn hard time trying to...

As professionals, we must always remember that nothing is for free. NOTHING.

If something is free, then you are the product.

And this doesn’t stop with Apple. Others are getting into that market also. So if you value your privacy, think about what you’re using and how you are using it. Apple products aren’t expensive. You pay for peace of mind, privacy, good products and existing support and stores for all of these components.

So let me ask you... If you think Apple products are expensive, what do others offer you?
